12th EUROMECH European Turbulence Conference
Marburg, Sept. 7 - 10, 2009
TRAVEL TO AND FROM MARBURG:
By plane:
Foreign participants travelling by plane are advised to fly to Frankfurt Airport. Arriving at Frankfurt Airport take a local train to Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof (main train station). You can get the ticket at the RMV ticket machines. From Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof take an IC or local train to Marburg. See below for more information.
Cologne/Bonn Airport and Düsseldorf Airport are alternatives but the trip by train or car from there to Marburg is more complicated and time-consuming.
Please beware that the airport Frankfurt/Hahn (served by Ryanair, e.g.) is southwest of Frankfurt and connected to Frankfurt main station by bus: the travel time is about 2 h.
By car:
From the north and the south Marburg can be reached on the national highway B 3. Approaching Marburg, this highway turns into a dual carriage way. Take the exit "Marburg Mitte" if you are staying in town or "Marburg Süd" in case you are staying at the hotel "Zur Burgruine Frauenberg". Consult the map for details.
By train:
Marburg can be reached by train from the south usually via Frankfurt and from the north usually via Kassel. For further information, please contact the conference secretariat or consult the Deutsche Bahn web site for detailed information on connections, prices, etc. Plarticipants travelling by plane via Frankfurt, pease note that trains to Marburg go every hour (at about 20 minutes past the hour), but are operated alternately by Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV, a local network) and by Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB). Tickets for one cannot be used on the other.
If you want to be on the safe set, buy a Deutsche Bahn ticket for travel between
Frankfurt Flughafen (Regionalbahnhof) and Marburg (Lahn) including possibly an IC between Marburg and Frankfurt: this gives you the greatest flexibility.
